W.C. Benton, Jr., a leading purchasing expert, is the author of two books, Purchasing and Materials Management and Statistics for Surgical Quality Control. His research has been published in the European Journal of Operational Research, The Journal of Operations Management, International Journal of Production Research, Naval Research Logistics, Decision Sciences, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and other publications. Benton is ranked first in productivity out of 723 professors in 237 production and operation management departments in the nation. He is the recipient of the 1997 Pace Setters Research Award. He has given professional presentations in Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Taiwan, and Japan and has served as a visiting faculty member at the Chinese Hong Kong University. Benton sits on the boards of directors for The Sleep Medicine Foundation, Tibbs Information, Inc., and Allen Enterprises. He has served as a consultant for companies including IBM, Gelzer Systems, DiamlerChrysler, Digital, Battelle, Bitronics, the U.S. Air Force, South Carolina State University, Grant Hospital, the Federal Highway Administration, and the Department of Transportation. Benton holds a DBA and MBA from Indiana University and a BBA from Texas Christian University.
