If the middle market were a country, its GDP would rank as the fourth largest economy in the world. Yet the media, policy makers, and the public largely ignore this large and thriving market segment.
Fortunately, two institutions that fully recognize the vital role of the middle market — GE Capital and The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business — have established a research partnership and conducted the largest study to date on the middle market. The researchers set out to sharply define the middle market, understand its operational capabilities and performance, and understand its unmet needs.
As a result of the research, benchmarks now exist to set the stage for further research and problem solving relate to the middle market. In addition, middle market businesses have information that can be used to help the sector evolve and to contribute to restoring economic prosperity in the United States.
